What YourTracking sends to Meta
Your purchases, from our server
Your purchases go to your dataset through Meta's Conversions API, server to server, so a blocked browser script does not stop them. Personal details such as email addresses and phone numbers are hashed before they leave our server.
The steps before a purchase
We also send Meta's standard events for the steps before it: PageView, ViewContent, AddToCart and InitiateCheckout.
One sender, each sale counted once
Meta treats a browser event and a server event as one only when both carry the same event id, and it keeps two server events with the same information as two. So when you connect, you switch off every other Meta tracking for the store: Data sharing in Shopify's Facebook & Instagram app, other tracking apps, a Meta pixel you added yourself, and Meta tracking inside an external checkout.
Your cookie banner, your choice
Your store has one cookie choice. Track everyone, the default, delivers every sale in full, and you confirm you have the right to do this. Follow my cookie banner follows each visitor's answer: one who rejects or never answers is not sent to Meta.
What you see in YourTracking
Under Ad channels on your store's page, Meta has its own section.
Match quality each event, Meta's own grade
- Purchase9.1Great
- InitiateCheckout8.4Great
- AddToCart7.6Good
- ViewContent6.9Good
- PageView6.2Good
- Sales from Meta clicks
- The revenue of your orders whose visit came from Facebook or Instagram with Meta's click id.
- Accepted by Meta
- How many of the sales we sent Meta accepted.
- Match quality
- Meta's own grade for your purchases, read from Meta, with the grade of each event we send in a fold-out under the chart.
- Break-even ROAS
- Worked out from the costs you set for your store. Hold it beside the ROAS in Meta Ads Manager: below it, a Meta ad sale costs you money.
Set up in two steps
First you add your store and connect Shopify. Then the Meta page has two steps.
- 1
Connect your dataset
Paste two values from Meta Events Manager: your Dataset ID, the number after /dataset/ in the Events Manager address, and an Access token (in Events Manager: your dataset, Settings, Conversions API, Generate access token). Press Connect and we check both with Meta right away.
- 2
Switch off any other Meta tracking
Switch off the places listed above, then tick the box and press Confirm.
Your events go to Meta from the moment Meta is connected, once Shopify is connected too. Test connection under Manage sends Meta a test event and shows Meta's answer.
Questions
Something else? Write to info@yourtracking.ai
Do I have to switch off my other Meta tracking?
Yes, or Meta counts each sale twice. Switch off Data sharing in Shopify's Facebook & Instagram app, any other tracking app, a Meta pixel you added yourself, and Meta tracking inside an external checkout. Then tick the box on the Meta page and press Confirm.
Which kind of Meta token should I use?
A system-user token from Meta Business settings with access to your dataset. If Meta ever stops accepting your token, your Meta page says so: make a new one and paste it there.
Why do my numbers differ from Meta's?
Meta reports the sales it credits to its ads under its own attribution settings, and its numbers can include conversions it models. Your store page shows the orders Shopify recorded. The two answer different questions, so they rarely match exactly.
How do I check that Meta receives our events?
Open Manage on the Meta page and press Test connection. We send Meta a test event and show its answer there.
How do I disconnect Meta?
On the Meta page, open Manage, then Disconnect, tick the box and press Disconnect Meta. Sending to Meta stops for this store until you reconnect, and your settings are kept.
